Mako Reels in the media
Customer Testimonials
Dear Jack,
I have now received my new Mako. I must say; it is a real piece of fantastic craftmanship. When taking it out of the box for the first time, I had this wonderful sence of quality, same as I had when putting on my first Rolex some years ago. I really like the design, but most of all I like the function. I never thought I would find a reel that had a spool what had a larger inner and outer diameter than my XXXX Traditional 4, which I have used from 1993. The effect is of course that I have an even better control and retrieval rate when salmon swims against me, or when finished the run, I stop it, and immediately start reeling it back to my feet. I had the opportunity to test it a few days ago . In the River of Maalselv in Troms, a top ten river in Norway. I hooked a small salmon at about 6-7 kg. It took and made a bonefish-run – of course brake was silky smoooooth, and no problem due to the retreaval rate to get it back - really fun.
Kind regards,

Jack: Hi!
Thanks. I caught a lot of Bonefish, double digits most days on both trips, but not that many really big ones, 8-10lbs. None of the bigger ones actually ran out more than 100yrds. of backing so, you could argue about the utility of using that large a reel, but I did enjoy it! The reel itself is beautiful and mechanically great; smoothest drag I have ever seen, almost imperceptible inertial start up and the range at the light end is broader than I have experienced...and that's a good thing. I enjoyed fishing with it. Going to change to a 12 wt line on them next week and catch some Tarpon in the Keys and perhaps a billfish or two the next week at St. Thomas. All the Best to You,

G'day Jack,
I told you way back when I bought the reel that I would give you some feedback once I'd fished it. I've posted a picture of a GT we got on fly at Bugatti Reef in North Qld. The 9600 performed flawlessly. I hooked the fish on about half drag and upped to about three-quarters mid way into the fight. The fish still ran at least 250 metres and the final part was slugged out in ten metres of water.
Cheers for making such a great reel.
